Christmas characters brings figures together around a single occasion, which is why an animal belongs there too if it is associated with winter. Here the criterion works the other way round: the figure has to be a character, and the occasion is left open. The design names show it, because they refer to an activity or a role — skater, ski jumper, ballerina, violinist, clown, astronaut, train driver, princess, witch — and none of them points to a particular holiday.
Two ways of making the same motif
Flat and three-dimensional forms are split roughly evenly across this design range, whereas in most of the other subcategories in this group three-dimensional forms clearly dominate. A single motif shows it: the ballerina appears here both as a three-dimensional figure and as a flat silhouette.
